So…I got offered a JOB!

Oh my goshness! Haha! So as I stated before I was doing my very first internship at a promotional marketing agency downtown. I was here from the beginning of May till end of July…but on my last week I got pulled to the side, thanked for my hard work and got offered a position with the company! I was so thrilled and excited my response was “Oh my god! For real!? I’m gonna cry!” HAHAHA! I was so embarrassed! But I was so thrilled to get a job! I was already dreading the end of my time here because that meant going back to the zoo and working all weekend, and who likes to work weekends?! Not me…I’m more of a Monday through Friday type of gal! Anyways, I got offered a part-time position, 30 hours a week as an administrative assistant. They hope to have me on board full-time by the end of the year, very exciting! The only down fall of it all is my long CTA commute I have to get here. It takes me an hour and a half to get from my house to here, it sucks, but I am doing it! I’m so proud of myself, they told me that I was the first intern to get offered a position! How thrilling! I’m so thankful and happy to obtain an opportunity at this time! I still hope to obtain my place in a creative department of an ad agency, and I will continue to search. So far, life as a recent graduate with a bachelors has turned pretty swell!

Still upset…dear dream job, find me soon please?

July 7, 2011 at 7:48 pm (The Struggle to Victory) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

3 more weeks till my internship is over…I can’t believe it! I still haven’t landed an interview anywhere, it’s frustrating, upsetting, and stressing me out! It seems like all the goals I set “in stone” for myself never fall through. I really wanted to have a job waiting for me after leaving this job, I don’t want to return to a minimum wage job that I hate! Not to mention hours have been cut back there, so I’ll be making like $150.00 every two weeks…IF THAT! I hope I can find the ad agency of my dreams…I just can’t wait! Things in the internship are going well, I love the atmosphere and I’ve been feeling comfortable, I feel at home. I just wish I had more job duties to add to my knowledge. I can’t wait to be finished, and I can’t wait to get my diploma from Columbia! I paid my school balance on the 1st and submitted my internship papers yesterday, now I think I have to wait till I get the missing credits to obtain it. I’m excited to have it in my hands!

Times are Changing!

June 8, 2011 at 5:51 pm (The Struggle to Victory) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

When I was in school, at Columbia College Chicago, I had a certain perception of what a person in the field “looked like.” Dress pants, suit, ties, dress shoes, heels, and everything in between. Although these things are still common, they are not seen as often as I thought they would. In some of my classes, my professors spoke about this change in wardrobe, but I never really thought about it until I witnessed it. Since I am currently working an internship, I commute to downtown Chicago every day of the week and I see a lot of hard-working business people come and go. Most are wearing regular casual clothes and you wouldn’t think they are the people running meetings, business, and companies. Some people in my office come in wearing jeans, shorts, flip-flops, and regular comfy t-shirts, but they are still professional. It makes me feel comfortable to know that the way you dress doesn’t affect who you are in a professional level, not implying that we should let ourselves go, but it’s nice to be yourself and others accepting you. It is very interesting, and nice to be part of change. Although this is happening, I come to work everyday dressing the “old-fashion” way. I wear my suit pants, “dressy” top, and a casual cardigan/shrug to complete my three-piece “professional” outfit. I feel that this is more appropriate for me since I am in search of a job, I am a recent graduate and I think I should look as professional as can be since my resume is blank in the experience section. But my question now is, since wardrobe is drastically changing, do employers even take appearance into consideration when they are hiring? Maybe I should ask my fellow co-workers here at the office. Nevertheless, I’m loving this change, and I can’t wait to show the world who I am…”rocker” Guadalupe Rocha!

I should have started a LONG time ago…

May 25, 2011 at 8:10 pm (A graduates introduction to the real world) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Greetings fellow WordPress users! I named my first post “I should have started a LONG time ago…” because I have been writing for about 4 years now, but never did it online since I enjoy the notion of a pen on paper, old-school, I know! Anyways,  I will begin by introducing myself…be prepared, once I start, I won’t shut up! Haha! My name is Guadalupe Rocha, you might already know that, but I prefer to be called Lupe. I “graduated” early May from Columbia with my bachelor’s in Marketing Communications. I say “graduated” because Read the rest of this entry »
